A mother-child parking lot (also: "MuKi parking lot", "parent-child parking lot", in clinics "Storchenparkplatz") is a parking space located in a customer parking lot that is specially intended for heavily pregnant women and people with small children . Parent-child parking is an equal term .

Just like disabled parking spaces, mother-child parking spaces are usually in the immediate vicinity of the entrance area of the building to which the parking lot belongs; they are often a bit wider than normal parking lots to make it easier for children to get in and out of the car.

Unlike parking spaces for the disabled, mother and child parking spaces are not regulated by traffic law in Germany ; the StVO does not provide for them. In the case of privately operated parking lots or car parks, however, they can be marked as long as it is pointed out at the entrance that the regulations of the StVO do not apply on the site .

Mother-and-child parking spaces are particularly common in hospitals , supermarkets and shopping centers .

The United States has had a large number of customer-with-child parking spaces since the 1990s. Some shopping centers also have parking spaces for heavily pregnant women and new mothers (“Stork parking”, spaces for pregnant women and new mothers). These are sometimes controversial. While some opponents of these parking lots argue that pregnancy is not a disability, others protest that retailers are preventing customers with children from facing people with other mobility impairments - e. B. old people - prefer.

There are similar offers in public transport. There are usually some seats near the doors, preferably for heavily pregnant or handicapped people or those with children. Whereby these usually offer an obvious opportunity to park strollers, walkers or wheelchairs.
