The Mother of God Chapel on the Rothenberg in Guckheim ( Rhineland-Palatinate ) is a church building by the Westerburg architect Rudolf Hack .

history

The previous building of today's Mother of God Chapel stood on the site of today's building on Rothenberg until 1948 and had the same orientation. The exact time when the previous building was built cannot be determined, but it could be seen that it was built in two construction phases. A stone on which the year 1771 was carved and which was found during the demolition work can be used as an indication of the origin.

The decision to build a new and larger chapel was made in 1947. The reasons for the new building were the need for repairs to the old chapel, a credit of around 6000 Reichsmarks that should be invested before the currency reform and the hope of being able to hold church services on special occasions, as Guckheim does not have its own church decreed. Construction began on September 27, 1948, and the foundation stone was laid on May 22, 1949. The topping-out ceremony was celebrated on September 26, 1949. As the architect of the new chapel, Rudolf Hack from Westerburg was commissioned with the planning work. On November 12, 1950, the Mother of God Chapel was consecrated.

Since the financing of the construction project had to be raised through our own funds, the necessary income came on the one hand from monthly collections from house to house, in which the neighboring communities also participated. On the other hand, the civil parish of Guckheim donated a large amount of money as well as the construction timber. Further income was achieved with theatrical performances on the Rommel. There they organized plays with actors from the community in the years 1948–1952.
