history

Due to the outbreak of the Second World War in 1939, the import of toys in Switzerland almost came to a standstill, and there were hardly any own productions. The Mulhouse entrepreneur Marcel Csuka was a sales representative for well-known toy manufacturers in the 1930s. He temporarily filled this gap with Czech products from the Hamiro brand. Since this was not enough, he began producing the first handcrafted plush toys in Zurich in 1940 under the name "MCZ".

Csuka and his wife Annie-made teddy bears along the lines of the German Steiff - Teddy . 1949 was the hour of birth of the Mutzli , the name of which was soon to become synonymous with the entire company. The name was based on "Mutz", a Bernese dialect word for "bear". The fur usually consisted of mohair or high-quality plush wool .

After the end of World War II, Csuka resumed its commercial agencies. In 1957 he sold the stuffed animal production to the newly founded Felpa AG. In 1975 production was relocated to Wohlen and later to Suhr . In 1991 Felpa AG stopped production for economic reasons. The brand and production were taken over by BEA-Verlag , which produces and sells the bears to this day.

The old Mutzlib bears are popular among collectors and are occasionally shown in toy museums or exhibitions.
