The Myōhon-ji ( Japanese 妙 本寺 , with the mountain name Chōkō-zan 長興 山 ) is one of the oldest temples of Nichiren Buddhism in Kamakura with its foundation in 1260 .

history

The temple's founder, Hiki Yoshimoto, was the only survivor of an argument between his father Hiki Yoshikazu and Hōjō Tokimasa when he was a child . Yoshimoto fled to Kyoto , where he met the Buddhist scholar Nichiren and became his student. In the course of his life, Hiki Yoshimoto returned to Kamakura. To give peace to the souls of his ancestors, he founded the Myōhon-ji on the family's land.
