My Cephei stars

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

µ-Cephei stars are an obsolete class of variable giant - and supergiant stars . It is named after the "garnet star" µ Cep in the constellation Cepheus .

The class was defined by Joseph Plassmann as variable stars of the spectral classes G8 to M6, with very long-period fluctuations in brightness, mostly with a small amplitude , interrupted by standstills or shorter fluctuations. The stars classified as µ-Cephei stars are now assigned to semi-regular , irregular or unchangeable stars in the General Catalog of Variable Stars (GCVS) .
