Myawaddy ( Burmese မြဝတီမြို့ , BGN / PCGN : myawadimyo) is a city in Myanmar . It is located in the east of the country on the border with Thailand ( Mae Sot ).

On November 8, 2010, the day after the 2010 elections in Myanmar, the city experienced fierce military engagement with insurgents from the Karen minority.
