Mykola Semena

Mykola Semena ( Ukrainian Микола Семена ; * 1950 in Bobrowyzja ) is a Ukrainian journalist .

He studied journalism at the National Taras Shevchenko University of Kiev until 1976 . After working for various local newspapers, he joined Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty .

On September 22, 2017, Semena was sentenced to two and a half years in prison by a Russian court in Crimea for discussing in an article why he believed the annexation of Crimea was wrong. The sentence is suspended, but coupled with a professional ban .

Mykola Semena is a member of the Ukrainian section of the PEN
