Myokymia
The myokymia ( gr. Μύς "muscle" κύμα "wave") is an involuntary muscle activity in the form of short tetanic contractions in muscle fibers of skeletal muscle. A wave-like movement of the muscle is visible without an actual movement excursion occurring. Myokymia can persist during sleep and is not painful. They are to be distinguished from fasciculations (circumscribed), spasms (painful) and myoclonia (clear movement effect). Myokymia are often harmless and occur in healthy people, for example after severe muscular fatigue, but can also be signs of illness, for example in diseases of the motor neurons . The clinical picture of the superior oblique myokymia does not actually describe myokymia, but a tremor .
