The contributions to the legal history of Austria - BRGÖ are a scientific, peer-reviewed journal that specializes in Austrian legal history and appears twice a year both online and in print from the publishing house of the Austrian Academy of Sciences .

Founding and publisher

The BRGÖ was founded in 2011 by the Commission for the Legal History of Austria (KRGÖ) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , which was dissolved in 2012, but re-established in 2014 and then took over the publication of the BRGÖ again. The editorial work has been done since 2012 by a department of the Institute for Legal and Constitutional History at the University of Vienna , the “KRGÖ at the University of Vienna”.

Content and frequency of publication

The BRGÖ appear twice a year; As a rule, one of the two volumes contains the presentations of a conference organized by the KRGÖ in the previous year or is otherwise dedicated to a special topic, the second contains mixed contributions and, as a conclusion, an activity report of the KRGÖ on the past year. The BRGÖ is thus an organ of the KRGÖ, but is also open to publication by all other legal historians or anyone else interested in legal history.

The BRGÖ make contributions to Austrian legal history from the Middle Ages to the present. All areas of legal history (constitutional, private law, criminal law history) as well as related areas ( comparative law , legal dogmatics , sociology , political science , etc.) are covered. The term “ Austria ” in the title does not mean a restriction to the territory of today's republic, but should be understood broadly; Contributions to the history of the monarchy and its successor states as well as the integration of Austria into larger units belong here.

The online version appears on a paid website of the publishing house of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. Issues older than the current year are freely accessible.

Peer review

Each contribution is subjected to a peer review before publication , in a double-blind process, so that neither the reviewers know the person of the author nor vice versa. All peers together form the international scientific advisory board of the journal. It currently consists of the following people:
