Christian Neschwara

Christian Neschwara (* 1958 in Vienna ) is an Austrian legal historian .

Life

Neschwara completed his school education in Vienna from 1964 to 1977, which he completed with the school-leaving examination in 1977. 1977/78 the military service followed (in Carinthia and Vienna). This was followed by a law degree at the University of Vienna from the 1978/79 winter semester , which he completed in 1984 with a Magister iuris and in 1985 with a Doctorate iuris. Since July 1, 1984 he has been employed at the Institute for (Austrian and German or Austrian and European legal history, now) legal and constitutional history. In 1985 he was a legal trainee in the Higher Regional Court of Vienna and from 1985 to 1992 lecturer at the Volkshochschule Wien-Margarethen (later: polycollege / Wiener Volksbildungsverein ) as part of preparatory courses for the university entrance examination. In 1994/95 he successfully completed his habilitation procedure and in 1995 he was awarded the license to teach as a university lecturer in Austrian and German legal history, including the history of constitutional and private law in modern times. Since January 1, 1996, Neschwara has been permanently employed as an assistant professor and since 1997 he has been teaching as an associate professor. Between 2012 and 2018 he repeatedly held teaching positions at the Faculty of Law at Masaryk University in Brno , in Innsbruck in 2018 and in Szeged in 2019 .

Since 2003 Neschwara has been a member of the Commission for the Legal History of Austria at the Austrian Academy of Sciences , the European Society for History of Law , the Vereinigung für Verfassungsgeschichte , the International Commission for the History of Representation and Parliamentary Institutions (national section Austria). He is also a member of the Society for Fraternity History Research and the Scientific Advisory Board of the Franz Dinghofer Institute.

Neschwara is also a member of the striking Viennese academic fraternity Gothia (member of the association's board since the 1990s; chairman 2011–2017). In this role he defended the fraternity in public against accusations of anti-Semitism. In 2018, Neschwara gave the keynote address at the Vienna Academics Ball organized by the FPÖ .
