Controversy

In April 2017, customer Adam Brenton said he had found a dead mouse in a 1.45 kg bag of chocolate whey protein that he had bought on the Myprotein website. He claimed that he used the protein powder for 3 weeks before discovering the mouse carcass at the bottom of the bag. With Brenton's approval, the pouch of protein powder was tested by food safety expert Ecolab, with the support of Liverpool University. The results indicated that the mouse was not included in the protein powder during shipping and that it died about 3 weeks after the protein batch was completed. As a result, Brenton had to pay damages and legal costs of unknown amounts to The Hut.com Ltd and Cend Ltd. Many news outlets that previously covered the original story later apologized to Myprotein for the previously published claims.
