Myrtos ( Greek Μύρτος ( m. Sg. )) Is a pebble beach in the bay of the same name on Kefalonia in the municipality of Pylaros .

Location and infrastructure

This is framed by a steep wall in the middle of the two mountains Agia Dynati and Kalon Oros (901m above sea level), from the road at about 800m above sea level. M. offers a panoramic view of the beach. It is a fracture and clod area par excellence, the formation of which can be traced back to the more recent fracture and earthquake formation, which transformed all the height differences that existed in the original age of the mountain zones.

The area is protected by landscape and may not be built on. An exception is a single house, which enjoys protection, which was built around 5 decades ago with a building permit.

The beach is accessed via a road that has had a turning loop at the end since 2006. Parking spaces are laid out along this. There is a bus connection from Agia Efimia , but private transport is mostly used to visit the beach. There is a community pavilion on the beach where drinks are sold.

meaning

Myrtos can be found (not least because of the embedded landscape and the view from the steep face) as a picture in numerous publications about Greece.

It has also received numerous awards, such as best Greek beach (12 times in a row) or No. 36 of the world's travel destinations , the No. 6 of the top ten beaches in Europe , World's best beaches No. 5 “Dream place of Day: Perhaps the most beautiful beach on the Mediterranean "(Geo) or as a travel recommendation from the Daily Telegraph etc.
