Náměstí Jiřího z Poděbrad ( Place George of Poděbrady ) is a square in the center of Prague district of Vinohrady in the district of Prague 3 . It is named after Georg von Podiebrad , who was King of Bohemia from 1458 to 1471.
The square was laid out in 1896 and was initially called Náměstí krále Jiřího ( King George's Square ) until it was given its current name in 1948. The square is designed as an urban park with the Sacred Heart Church built by the Slovenian architect Jože Plečnik in the center, which forms the dominant feature of the square. The rectangular park is surrounded by four streets. The largest of these is Vinohradská , which runs south of the square and on which tram lines 11 and 13 run. The subway station Jiřího z Poděbrad of the metro line A is located at the southeast corner of the square .
