The Nípsfjörður is a bay in the east of Iceland in the fjord Vopnafjörður .
This bay is located west of Vopnafjörður and the Kolbeinstangi headland. The bay is 3 kilometers wide and extends about 1,600 meters into the country. The inner coast is formed by the Nípssandur which almost completely separates the Nípslón from the open sea. This lagoon stretches almost 6 kilometers further inland, almost as far as Vopnafjörður. This lagoon is crossed by the Norðausturvegur . The Vesturá River flows into the lagoon. The bay is still spelled Nýpsfjörður in older maps, but this does not change the pronunciation.
