The Vopnafjörður is a fjord in northern Iceland between the Héraðsflói and the Þistilfjörður .
Location and dates
It lies west of the Kollumúli peninsula and east of the Digranes peninsula. It is about 18 kilometers wide and 20 kilometers into the country.
In the interior of this fjord on the headland Kolbeinstangi is the place Vopnafjörður , the only place on this coast. The river Hofsá flows east of the village further inside the fjord . To the west of the headland, the bay is called Nípsfjörður .
