features
The species is flat with a broad head and body and reaches a length of 63 cm, an unconfirmed sighting also reports 100 cm. Around the upper jaw it wears barbels and skin flaps that, unlike those of other species of carpet shark, do not branch. Compared to other carpet sharks, she wears rather inconspicuous, dark saddles on her back, and there are no other drawings between the saddles.
Way of life
The northern carpet shark lives close to the coast in mostly brackish shallow water at depths of around 3 m. It presumably hunts bottom-dwelling molluscs and smaller fish at night , but nothing is known about its diet. During the day it usually hides under rocky outcrops. The species is ovoviviparous .
