NDISwrapper is an open source program, which the use of Windows - drivers for wireless network cards primarily under GNU / Linux allows.

The Network Driver Interface Specification (NDIS) refers to the driver specification originally standardized by Microsoft and 3Com , which is intended to make it easier for hardware manufacturers to write appropriate drivers for their devices. If the required drivers for certain card types do not yet exist for Linux or Unix systems, the NDISwrapper acts like an adapter between the operating system and the driver. In addition to the module for the Linux / Unix kernel, it also contains programs for administering and setting up the drivers.

Graphic front ends

ndisgtk

NDISwrapper consists of a kernel module and a command line program for administration. In order to simplify the use of NDISwrapper, a number of graphical frontends were developed to simplify the installation of the Windows driver. These programs provide a graphical user interface and use NDISwrapper as a backend. The graphical front ends include ndisgtk , which is included in the standard installation of Zenwalk Linux and Wolvix, ndisconfig , which is used as standard under VectorLinux , and KNDISWrapper for the KDE -3.5.x interface.
