The NEC Supertower ( Japanese NEC ス ー パ ー タ ワ ー , enu ī shī sūpātawā ) is a high-rise in the Shiba district of the Minato district of Tokyo , Japan . It is the headquarters of the electronics group NEC Corporation .

The building was built according to plans by the architecture company Nikken Sekkei Ltd. built. The skyscraper is 180 meters high and has 44 floors. The high-rise, completed in 1990, is mainly used as an office building.

The representative building is divided into three parts in the upper area. Its side view resembles a space shuttle more than a normal high-rise. In the lower segment there is a 45 meter high atrium covered with glass , which can be opened in summer for ventilation and cooling.

The 15 meter high air space between the lower and the upper section ensures, on the one hand, the natural light of the atrium and, on the other hand, it is intended to reduce the unavoidable wind turbulence caused by the structure.

The companies Obayashi Gumi Corporation, Kajima Corporation and Nikken Sekkei Ltd. were responsible for the construction.
