NIX (fashion label)
The fashion label NIX was founded in 1990 by the designers Barbara Gebhardt, daughter of the writer Eugen Oker , and Angela Herb. As one of the first young fashion companies, they relocated their company, with a studio and shop, in the art and scene district in Berlin-Mitte that was then emerging around Auguststrasse (Berlin) . It is one of the few fashion companies founded in Berlin that has existed for more than 20 years.
In the early 1990s, improvised fashion shows followed in empty houses and apartments in the neighborhood around the Kunsthaus Tacheles : 1991 in a ruined building at Auguststrasse 4, together with the East Berlin avant-garde fashion label “Allerleirauh”; 1993 in the partially uninhabited rear building at Auguststrasse 86, in cooperation with the Berlin-Mitte housing association (WBM) or in 1992 on the street itself, during the contemporary art exhibition "37 rooms" curated by Klaus Biesenbach .
From 1997 Barbara Gebhardt continued to run the company on her own and was the first company to move into the historic building ensemble of the restored Heckmann-Höfe . The shop with a studio and training company is still located there today.
Today, NIX is primarily established in sustainable ethical fashion . Every six months, a complete collection is designed in the Berlin studio and manufactured in Poland from certified materials.
