The 607 series of the National Society of Belgian Railways refers to an internal combustion engine that was built in 1936 and destroyed in World War II.

history

From 1934 to 1936, the National Society of the Belgian Railways ordered prototypes for a one-piece diesel multiple unit from several Belgian manufacturers. Exactly one copy was created from each construction. The class 607 railcar was manufactured by Forges Usines et Fonderies d'Haine-Saint-Pierre. Three years later, this manufacturer delivered six more, more powerful combustion railcars, which were designated as the 608 series .

During the Second World War, the class 607 railcars, as well as the prototypes of the class 602 , class 603 and class 605 , were destroyed. Its class designation was given in 1953 to the class 606 railcars .

Technology and equipment

The class 607 railcar was powered by a twelve-cylinder diesel engine manufactured by Mercedes-Benz . Power was transmitted mechanically to one of the two bogies . The second bogie was designed as a pure running bogie and had a different axle base. The railcar had a mixed class design and offered 20 seats in the second and 50 seats in the third class. The first car class was not carried.
