NV Energy Inc. is an electricity and gas company based in Las Vegas , Nevada . The holding company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange and had sales of around three billion US dollars in 2012.
NV Energy supplies around 840,000 customers in southern Nevada and 323,000 customers in the north of the state with electricity and another 150,000 customers in the Reno - Sparks region with gas.
history
The company's history goes back to 1928 when the Sierra Pacific Power Company was founded, which was responsible for the energy supply in northern Nevada.
Nevada Power was the first Nevada company to be listed on the New York Stock Exchange in 1962.
In 1996 the company was reorganized into the Sierra Pacific Resources holding company. In 1999, Sierra Pacific Resources and the Nevada Power Company merged. The two companies have been operating under the name NV Energy since 2008.
In May 2013, Berkshire Hathaway announced the purchase of the company for $ 5.6 billion. Operationally, the purchase will be made through Berkshire subsidiary MidAmerican Energy and should be completed in early 2014.
