Descendant board

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A descendant board or descendant board is the representation of the descendants or descendants of a test person or a living being in board form.

The offspring are sorted by generation (the test person usually on top, but sometimes also on the left of the board), the siblings , if known, by year of birth . Descendancy tables are ideal in genealogy to get a quick overview of descendant lists or as sketches in a family chronicle .

A descendant table that only records descendants with the same family name as the test person is a family tree .

In reference works , the family name is a sorting criterion and thus the family tree or family list is the natural form of representation, as is the case in family histories. Descendant tables and lists, on the other hand, predominate in the monograph dedicated to a specific person and their descendants.

The methodological questions of the research are presented in the article Descendant List.
