Nachon (Bible)
Nachon is a biblical person from the Old Testament and is mentioned in the Book of Samuel as the owner of a threshing floor.
etymology
In research there is disagreement about whether Hebrew נָכֹון nākhôn , German Nachon, is really a personal name. In addition to using it as a proper name, it would also be possible to use the participle of the root in the N-stem, Hebrew nifˈal . In this case, there would be no talk of the “ Nachons threshing floor ”, but of a “fixed threshing floor” so that the owner of the threshing floor would not be mentioned. On the other hand, the possible interpretation of the word as a substantiated form of the root נכה nkh , German “to damage”, has been largely refuted . The resulting translation in terms of "damage to the antenna" was often referred to as link with the rescue attempt Uzza, the ark ( 2 Sam 6,7 LUT interpreted wanted to protect) from damage.
The Septuagint gives the name as Νωδαβ Nōdab (reads the name Nadab instead of Nachon ), the Vulgate as Nachon .
Mention in the Bible
We encounter the name Nachon in the Bible on the one hand in 1 Chr 13,9 LUT and on the other hand in 2 Sam 6,6 LUT . Nachon is mentioned as the owner of a threshing floor. It is through this area that David and his followers travel to bring the Ark of the Covenant from Baala to Jerusalem . This is where the cattle threaten to break out. In 1 Chr 13,9 LUT , however, Nachon is not mentioned, rather it is more precisely where the threshing floor is located. We no longer speak of the "Tenne Nachons", but of the "Tenne Kidons ".
