The nail wreath is the name given to the thickening at the tip of a finger or toe phalanx , fracture ( Latin : frangere : “to break”) stands for a broken bone. Such injuries are common, for example due to a missed hammer blow.

The diagnosis is confirmed by an X-ray image in two planes, as shown in the picture.

The treatment is almost always conservative , i. H. thus with immobilization without surgery. Prefabricated finger splints ( stack splints - see picture) have proven themselves for this . Only open fractures with exposed bone are to be treated surgically. Occasionally, additional injuries, such as bruises under the nail, need to be treated.
