A stack rail

A Stack splint or splint according to Stack is a splint for treating injuries to the end phalanx of the fingers . A Stack's splint is used to treat tears of the extensor tendon at the finger end joint with retained residual extensibility , as in most cases such an injury does not require an operation. The splint is usually made of plastic .

It is used to immobilize the finger joint in the extended position. The end link is lifted and the gap between the two tendon ends is closed. As a rule, the splint has to be worn for six to eight weeks, the central joint should remain mobile. The early start of treatment and the consistent wearing of the splint without interruptions throughout the entire treatment period are decisive for the success of the treatment.

The splint is also used in the treatment of nail fractures of the fingers.
