Nahid Shahalimi

Nahid Shahalimi (* 1973 in Kabul, Afghanistan ) is a Canadian-Afghan artist, writer, filmmaker and human rights activist .

Life

Nahid Shahalimi grew up as one of the four daughters of Abdul Hakim Shahalimi, an influential politician, in the high society of Kabul. In 1981, shortly before her eighth birthday, her father died, which changed the life of the family dramatically. After partial expropriation and threats, the widow decided to flee abroad with the daughters. After an arduous journey on foot over the mountains to Pakistan , they ultimately fled to Québec , Canada .

Nahid Shahalimi speaks English, German, French, Dari, Persian, Spanish and Urdu. Today she lives in Munich with her two daughters.
