The quartet consists of the United States , Russia , the European Union and the United Nations .

history

The group was founded in Madrid in 2002 by the then Spanish Prime Minister Aznar in response to the Al-Aqsa Intifada and the failure of the Oslo peace process in the Middle East . Following his resignation as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom on June 27, 2007, Tony Blair was the Quartet's Special Envoy from June 2007 to June 2015. So far, no successor is planned for his post.

criticism

Some Arab countries repeatedly accuse the body of a pro-Israel stance. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also spoke to journalists in November 2012 that he was concerned about the effectiveness of the body in helping to resolve the conflict if it did not work more closely with the Arab League.
