Philibert de Naillac
Philibert de Naillac , also Philibertus Naillacensis (* in Bridiers ; † June 1421 ) was the 34th Grand Master of the Order of St. John on Rhodes from May 6, 1396 until his death .
He was probably born at Bridiers Castle in the Limousin region . His father Périchon von Naillac was vice-count of Bridiers. He became the Grand Prior of Aquitaine in the French tongue.
He had the fortifications of Rhodes expanded, in particular around a tower at the trading port, which is named after him and bears his coat of arms.
In 1396 he took part in the Battle of Nicopolis with the order and later Emperor Sigismund .
In 1402 the Johanniter lost their possessions on mainland Asia Minor when Timur stormed their city of Smyrna .
In 1409 he took part in the Council of Pisa , and then stayed in Europe. He did not return to Rhodes until 1419.
