Nakamura Taizaburō

Nakamura Taizaburō ( Japanese 中 村 泰 三郎 ; * 1912 in Yamagata Prefecture ; † May 13, 2003 ) was a Japanese master of various martial arts.

Nakamura began learning Kendo at the age of 15. In 1932 he had the 3rd Dan in Kendo and Judo , entered the military and taught the officers in Kendo in his regiment. He was first transferred to a boys' military academy as a fencing instructor, later he came to the Toyama military academy, where he also taught Jūkendō and Tankendō . He was also a fencing instructor in Manchuria . After the war he founded the All Japan Toyama Ryū Iaidō Federation . In 1952 he founded the Nakamura Ryu. In 1992 it was recognized as a living cultural treasure .

He was Sōke of the Nakamura Ryū Battō-dō and So-Shihan of the All Japan Toyama Ryū Federation and had dang gradations in the following Budo types :

  • Battōdō: 10th Dan Hanshi ( IMAF )
  • Kendō: 8th Dan Hanshi (IMAF) and 7th Dan Kyoshi (AJKF)
  • Jūkendō: 8th Dan Hanshi (AJJF)
  • Tankendō: 8th Dan Hanshi (AJJF)
  • Kyūdō : 4th Dan (ANKF)
  • Judo: 3rd Dan of the pre-war Judo Association
