Manufacturing

In contrast to the fruit brandy , the alcohol is not obtained from the fruit, but, as with other toppings, gets into the nalewka through the addition of vodka or spirit or other alcoholic beverages. The word Nalewka comes from the Polish nalewać (German: to add ). Depending on the recipe, the vodka is poured onto fruit, herbs, roots, honeys, etc., from which it derives its taste. Making Nalewka is very time consuming. The best nalewkas usually take at least five years.

Most of today's Nalewka recipes date from the 19th century and are passed on to the next generations like family traditions. Nalewskas are rarely produced commercially, or the commercially available Nalewkas are usually not real. An exception to this is the honey Nalewka Krupnik , which is available in stores. Some restaurants in Poland offer homemade nalewkas.

Festivals

Every year in May in Jakubowice and in September in Kazimierz Dolny there are festivals of the Nalewkas, at which numerous private producers offer their products and exchange ideas about recipes.
