The Nambu-Goto action ( English Nambu-Goto action , after Yōichirō Nambu and Tetsuo Gotō ) is the simplest possible effect of a conformal field theory on a two-dimensional manifold and the effect of the boson string theory .

.
It was introduced by Yōichirō Nambu in 1970 and by Tetsuo Gotō in 1971 .
It is equivalent to the Polyakov effect . Further see string theory .
