Nancy Bertler (* in Munich ) is a German Antarctic researcher living in New Zealand . She is mainly concerned with the history of the climate based on Antarctic ice cores .

Life

Bertler studied geology and geography at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich until 1997 , completed her studies in Quaternary studies at the Royal Holloway, University of London with a Master of Science degree in 1998 and moved to New Zealand in 1999 to work with Peter Barrett , the director at the time from the Antarctic Research Center to do a PhD. In 2004 she graduated with a Ph.D. in geology from Victoria University of Wellington .

During her doctorate, Bertler established a cooperation with international partners in the USA and Germany in order to start with ice core research in the Ross Sea . As a postdoctoral fellow, she developed the infrastructure for ice core research with GNS Science , heads the National Ice Core Research Program of New Zealand and carried out research with scientists from Australia, China, Denmark, Germany, Italy, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the United States. The program, which was budgeted at NZ $ 11 million , spanned seven years.

Bertler is currently Associated Professor at Victoria University of Wellington , Ice Core Research Leader of the GNS Science Institute , Antarctic Science Platform Director of the Antarctic Research Center and heads the Roosevelt Island Climate Evolution Project (RICE) of the Antarctic Research Center , which is a joint project of the Victoria University of Wellington and the GNS Science is.
