Nao (bell)

Nao ( Chinese    /  , Pinyin náo ), also Shang nao ( 商 鐃  /  商 铙 , shāngnáo ), is a small Chinese ritual bell without a clapper made of bronze . The nao was already known in the time of the Shang Dynasty . It was held with the opening facing up and struck with a mallet. Biannao carillons ( 编 铙 , biānnáo ) made up of several bells, usually three, were found, a famous one made of five bells comes from the tomb of Fu Hao .
