In 2003, Naoki Tomita, as an initiator and founding member, brought the KEC “Die Haie” traditional team into being. The aim of the non-profit association is to support ice hockey players who do not belong to the professional squad. These are in particular players and alumni of the Kölner Haie and the predecessor club Kölner EC. Naoki Tomita has been a board member of the KEC since its inception.

Due to his Japanese origins and his expertise in ice hockey, Tomita was appointed a member of the Japan Ice Hockey Federation (JIHF) from April 2006 to May 2010 . As a member of the International & Marketing Committee , he was responsible for JIHF matters in Europe and represented the JIHF at the congresses of the International Ice Hockey Federation .
