Naoto Sato

Naoto Satō ( Japanese 佐藤 直 人 , Satō Naoto ; * 1953 ) is a Japanese amateur astronomer .

Satō is one of the most active amateur astronomers in Japan. From 1995 until today (as of Jan. 2010) he discovered a total of 138 asteroids at his private observatory (IAU Code 369) in Chichibu , 18 of them together with Takeshi Urata . He also made the preliminary observations that led to the discovery of Comet C / 1989 Y2 (McKenzie-Russell) .

He particularly supports the ARISS (Amateur Radio on the International Space Station) program, which enables schoolchildren and students to get in touch with the International Space Station via amateur radio .

The asteroid (6025) Naotosato was named after him.
