Naphthyl group

In organic chemistry, the naphthyl group is the naphthalene residue, i.e. a single-bond atom group that is derived from the aromatic hydrocarbon naphthalene, i.e. the atomic group –C 10 H 7 . There are two isomeric naphthyl groups, the 1-naphthyl radical (formerly also called α-naphthyl radical) and the 2-naphthyl radical (β-naphthyl radical).

Together with the phenyl group and other aromatic radicals, the naphthyl groups form the group of the aryl groups .

Examples of compounds with naphthyl groups are the naphthols , that is to say 1-naphthol and 2-naphthol, as well as the naphthylamines, 1-naphthylamine and 2-naphthylamine .
