Narrative (grammar)
In linguistics, two grammatical phenomena are called narrative ( Latin narrare to tell):
- In the Caucasian languages , the term narrative is a case term that is mainly used in Caucasian studies . It describes the so-called narrative case . For example, the ergative of the Georgian language is a narrative, since it is used exclusively in the perfect past tense of the aorist , i.e. in the narrative style. The Georgian name for the ergative is Mothxrobithi .
- In the Baltic languages , the narrative is a special narrative mode , the forms of which are identical to the modus relativus (also called participle language), for example Lithuanian gyvenęs karalius "there lived a king" vs. gyveno karalius.
