Tire label with information on wet grip

The wet grip of the tires is a value that indicates the extension of the braking distance on wet roads. The exact information about this value can be read off on every EU tire label. The wet adhesion is considered a very important criterion for safe braking.

Classification

The wet grip classification is given in letters from A to G. The value A is considered to be the ideal value at which no extension of the braking distance is caused by wetness. The value G represents the greatest and therefore the worst value for wet grip. Classes D and G are not used in the classification. The wet grip values are assessed at a speed of 80 km / h.

class Extension of the braking distance
A. No extension
B. Braking distance extension by 3 meters
C. Braking distance extension by 4 meters
E. Braking distance extension by 5 meters
F. Braking distance extension by 6 meters

Importance and regulation

Since 2012, all factory summer, winter and all-season tires in the EU must have an official tire label. The tire label shows important information about fuel consumption , noise levels and the wet grip of the tires. Tires with a very good wet grip value are recommended for optimal braking. The tires are classified by the respective tire manufacturers and should be checked by suitable institutes.
