Naswar

Naswar is a form of chewing tobacco that is particularly common in South and Central Asia. Naswar is a mixture of tobacco leaves , ash, slaked lime and flavorings. This mixture is pulverized and moistened. For consumption, small amounts of naswar are worn under the upper lip for a longer period of time.

distribution

Naswar is very popular in many countries, especially Pakistan , Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries. Turkmenistan was the first country to ban Naswar in 2008, and Kazakhstan followed suit in 2015 . In August 2018, all Arab countries classified Naswar as a drug and thus banned it. The importation of Naswar was made a criminal offense. In November 2018, five drug traffickers in the United Arab Emirates had to stand trial for importing naswar. A major reason for the popularity of chewing tobacco is the relatively cheap price of naswar, which is only a fraction of the price of cigarettes .

consequences

Due to the nicotine it contains, Naswar is addictive. In addition, a study by the Leibniz Institute for Prevention Research and Epidemiology in Pakistan has shown a significantly increased risk of cancer as a result of naswar consumption.
