Natalia Toro

Natalia Toro (* 1985 ) is an American theoretical physicist.

Toro was the youngest winner of the First Prize in Intel Science Talent Search in 1999 at the age of 14 (she was at Fairview High School in Boulder, Colorado ), independently studying Super-Kamiokande neutrino oscillation data. In 1999 she won a silver medal in the International Physics Olympiad. She studied physics and mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Harvard University , where she received her PhD. As a post-doctoral student , she was at Stanford University from 2007 to 2010 and at the Institute for Advanced Study in 2011 . She researches and teaches at the Perimeter Institute .

She developed simplified models for a search for physics beyond the standard model, for example in the Large Hadron Collider . She looks for weak forces and dark matter not described in the Standard Model, for example in planned experiments at the electron accelerator of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility .

She is also investigating the possibility of massless particles with continuous spin (CSP), which would be candidates for novel long-range interactions.

In 2015 she and Philip C. Schuster received the New Horizons in Physics Prize for simplified models for the search for new physics at the Large Hadron Collider and for the experimental search for dark sectors using high-intensity electron beams .

She is married to the physicist Philip C. Schuster.
