Natalie Simanowski
Natalie Simanowski (* 20th July 1978 in Lingen (Ems) as Natalie Heskamp ) is a German cyclist.
Life
In 1999 Natalie Simanowski went to Munich and worked there as a pediatric nurse. In 2000 she won two runner-up titles in athletics. In the same year she met her future husband. On June 25, 2003, she was attacked with a knife in Munich by a mentally ill patient. The injury to the spinal cord left her incompletely paraplegic. But she continued to work as a pediatric nurse in outpatient care. In 2004 Natalie Simanowski drove for the first time a bike race in the Dolomites bike marathon over 57 kilometers. In 2005 she received an invitation to the viewing course of the German Disabled Sports Association , was accepted into the promotional squad and starts in the class for above-knee amputees without prostheses or those of equal status ( LC 3 ). Since then she has been internationally successful in cycling. In addition to cycling, she also does wheelchair basketball .
For winning the two silver medals in the 500 m time trial and in the individual pursuit at the Paralympic Games in Beijing in 2008, she received the Silver Laurel Leaf from the Federal President.
Natalie Simanowski is married. In April 2009, her autobiography, “Wieder aufmachen”, which she wrote together with sports journalist Detlef Dreßlein, was published by mvg Verlag in Munich.
