Nathan ben Jechiel
Nathan ben Jechiel (also: Natan ben Jechiel ; * around 1020 in Rome ; † 1106 ibid) was an Italian - Jewish scholar, lexicographer and a Talmudic authority.
He wrote the work Aruch ( Arukh , "armored", "prepared"), the first special dictionary on the Talmud. It cites many documentary texts for individual keywords from writings that are often lost today, traces rabbinic expressions back to their (supposed) origin in Greek, Latin, Persian, etc.
The Arukh became an indispensable manual for centuries to come and has influenced work on rabbinical lexicons up to the present day.
