Life
Nathan was born the son of the rabbi Naphtali Sternhartz and his wife Chaja Laneh. He also became a rabbi.
In 1802 he first met Rabbi Nachman in Brazlaw and became his most important student. He wrote down speeches and ideas by R. Nachman and published his work. After R. Nachman's death he led the Brazław Hasidim movement that had emerged. He continued the edition of his work.
In 1811 many devotees gathered for the first time on Rosh Hashanah at the grave of R. Nachman in Uman . In 1830 Nathan had a large synagogue built in Brazlaw for the Hasidim. Nathan never succeeded R. Nachman as rabbi, as the Brazław Hasidim were awaiting the return of R. Nachman.
Nathan died in Brazlaw on December 20, 1844.
