National Association of Rocketry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The National Association of Rocketry (NAR) is an American trade association for model rockets in the USA with around 5200 members and 125 local clubs.

history

The NAR was founded in 1957 by G. Harry Stine and Orville Carlisle. The background to this were numerous serious, often fatal accidents involving amateur rockets in the United States in the late 1950s. With the NAR, the idea of building a model rocket, which is regulated by a safety code and therefore safe, was born.

Regulations

Together with the Tripoli Rocketry Association , the NAR took legal action against restrictions on the APCP fuel and in 2009 won a multi-year court case against the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives .
