tasks

The tasks of the National Bureau of Statistics include the collection, analysis, coordination and publication of official economic, social, ecological and demographic statistics.

history

The beginning of an independent South Sudanese statistical office goes back to 1995, when the Database and Monitoring Unit was created under the leadership of the Sudan Relief and Rehabilitation Association (SRRA). In the course of further development, it was renamed the New Sudan Center for Statistics and Evaluation (NSCSE) in 2003. This was done by the SPLM / SPLA administration for the SPLM-controlled areas of South Sudan. This institution had the task of creating the basis for a future professional and effective provision of official statistical data in the SPLM areas. The need for this arose as part of the support for political monitoring in the conflict area of South Sudan. With the entry into force of the Interim Constitution in 2005, the name changed to the Southern Sudan Center for Census, Statistics and Evaluation .

The 5th Sudan Population and Housing Census in 2008 is one of the most comprehensive works of the forerunner institution SSCCSE . Further studies carried out in 2006 and 2010 include the statistical surveys as part of the Sudan Household Health Survey (SHHS), a health study carried out together with the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) and the 2009 National Baseline Household Survey (NBHS).

Publications

The agency issues several printed and digital publications. These include, for example:

  • South Sudan Statistical Yearbook
