National Institute of Public Administration

National Institute of Public Administration (NIPA) provides basic and advanced training for Zambian civil servants . His current work is based on the National Institute of Public Administration Act, No.15 of 1998 .

Origin and tasks

The NIPA was founded in 1963 for the intensive training of Zambian officials because of the country's upcoming independence. In 1966 it started its work as a training institute for the public service. In 1998, its competencies and functions were redesigned in line with democratization.

NIPA's areas of training include magistrates, prosecutors, general and local administration. It not only trains students from Zambia, but also from Botswana , Zimbabwe , Lesotho , Namibia and Gambia .

The seat of the NIPA is apparently Lusaka . It has its own academic library.

In the time of the Second Republic , the NIPA was almost more important than the University of Zambia . Because of the countless state-owned companies, countless civil servants have been trained at the NIPA. The need for qualified personnel was greater than any training capacity. In the end, however, it just inflated the civil service in Zambia incredibly. In 1983 the IMF and World Bank therefore called for far-reaching reforms, which were then worked out and adopted in 1998.
