The National Model Railroad Association, Inc. (NMRA) is the national association of model railroaders in the United States . It regulates and standardizes model railways in the USA.

Headquartered has the NMRA in Chattanooga (Tennessee) .

history

According to its own information, the NMRA was founded on September 1, 1935 in Milwaukee and registered as a non-profit organization in Ohio on May 17, 1947 in order to standardize the (typically incompatible) systems of the manufacturers so that products from different manufacturers can be used together could. The NMRA dates the publication of the first standards to the year 1936.

Normalization

When it comes to standardization, the NMRA usually begins by recording existing standards and recording them in the form of a Recommended Practice (RP for short). Mandatory standardized ( standardized ) properties of models are called standard and are abbreviated with "S" and a consecutive number.

Examples of standards

Probably the best known Recommended Practice in Europe is the RP25 , which defines the various forms of wheelset and wheel flange . The DCC protocol is specified in the USA as a recommendation for digital multi-train control (RP9).
