The National Portrait Gallery (dt. National Portrait Gallery ) is a museum in the Australian capital Canberra . It is a collection of portraits of prominent Australians who have achieved extraordinary things in their field or whose lives have resulted in long-lasting public interest. The collection was established in May 1998 and is spread over two locations.

In the Old Parliament House , seat of the Australian Parliament from 1927 to 1988, portraits of former personalities are exhibited, mostly in the form of paintings. Central components of the collection are the portraits of all Australian Prime Ministers and busts (including the death mask of Ned Kelly ). The museum building on nearby Commonwealth Place displays contemporary portraits, with the main focus being on photography .
