National Training Center
The National Training Center ( NTC ), founded on August 9, 1979, is the US Army's national training and qualification center in Fort Irwin, California . The high-tech facility with an area of 2590 km² is located on the area of an impassable military training area in the Mojave Desert and is particularly optimized for tank warfare . The training center is the primary training facility for the armored troops of the US Army and subordinate to the United States Army Forces Command . The 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment serves as the enemy representation ( opposing force ) .
