The National Bank of Serbia (Serbian Narodna Banka Srbije / Народна банка Србије ; abbreviation NBS ) is the central bank of the Republic of Serbia . Their most important tasks are to protect price stability and maintain financial stability.
The core tasks of the NBS include setting and implementing monetary policy, dinar exchange rate policy, managing foreign exchange reserves, issuing banknotes and coins, and maintaining efficient payment and financial systems.
Radovan Jelašić was the last governor of the National Bank of Serbia since 2004 . He resigned in March 2010 for “personal reasons”, although commentators saw the reason more as a result of differences of opinion between him and the Serbian government about the country's monetary policy.
In early August, Governor Dejan Šoškić resigned after the government announced that it would propose a law to parliament that would give it more control over the central bank.
